Nova Southeastern University
Physician Assistant Program Jacksonville
Clinical Preceptor Information
The Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant Program
Jacksonville began with their first class of 40 students in June 1, 2009,
with their clinical year starting August 2010.
Students will receive 14 months of didactic education, including
BCLS, ACLS, and PALS, before entering clinical rotations.
The program has received provisional accreditation by the
Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistants, with full
accreditation review after graduation of our first class in 2011. To meet
accreditation standards, all programs must provide inpatient and outpatient
experiences in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Prenatal and
Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Long Term Care and Pediatrics during
the 13 month clinical portion of their training.
Rotations in other specialties will be considered for one of three
“elective” rotations that the students will select (with guidance).
The didactic portion of the NSU PA program is designed
in the medical model, a condensed version of the first two years of medical
school with a clinical focus. Students will arrive at your clinical rotation
site with a level of knowledge comparable to third year medical students.
They will have professional liability insurance through NSU.
We will provide evidence of a background check, health and immunization
records, medical insurance, and HIPPA training.
Your strong support of NSU''s PA program will
provide an exceptional learning experience for students.
Clinical preceptors have a key role in the transition from the classroom
